Elewana Serengeti Pioneer Camp
Elewana Serengeti Pioneer Camp, perched on a rocky outcrop in southern-central Serengeti, offers sweeping views across the endless Serengeti plains. Close to the renowned Moru Kopjes, the site was originally chosen by acclaimed researcher and filmmaker Alan Root. Designed to have minimal impact on the environment, this camp brings the charm of a 1930s mobile safari while offering all the luxuries of a modern camp.
The camp features 12 elegantly furnished tents with Campaign-style safari decor and en suite bathrooms equipped with solar-heated showers. Each tent has a dedicated room attendant, ensuring guests’ comfort and convenience. Nestled in the natural bush, the tented suites provide an authentic back-to-nature experience. The camp’s bar and lounge offer spectacular views, making it an ideal spot for unforgettable sundowners.
Unique Selling Points
- Secluded Location: Serengeti Pioneer Camp, set on its own kopje, provides breathtaking views of the Serengeti plains and the nearby Moru Kopjes.
- Southern Migration: From January to March, the camp is ideally situated to witness the Great Migration as it moves through the southern Serengeti. During the January-February calving season, over 400,000 wildebeest calves are born, drawing predators, especially lions. Guests can enjoy a full-day game drive to witness this natural wonder, returning to the tranquility of camp.
- Private Picnic Site: The camp has exclusive access to a private hilltop picnic site, offering stunning panoramic views over the Serengeti plains in complete privacy. Pre-booking is required.
- Moru Kopjes: This historic rocky outcrop features ancient Maasai paintings and the unique Ngong Rock, which produces musical sounds when struck. This natural phenomenon has been a communication tool for the Maasai for centuries.
- Lake Magadi: A large soda lake accessible from camp, Lake Magadi seasonally hosts hundreds of flamingos, creating a breathtaking spectacle of pink against the landscape.
- Cheetah Conservation: The camp informally supports the Serengeti Cheetah Project, with managers sharing insights on the latest cheetah research and offering guests brochures to help identify individual cheetahs. Guests are encouraged to report sightings, contributing to conservation efforts.
