4 Days Tanzania Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to Serengeti National Park via a Maasai Village.

In the morning, after breakfast, begin your road transfer to Serengeti National Park. The drive starts on a well-paved road and crosses the gently rolling Maasai plains, which are dotted with scattered acacia trees. As you travel past the Great East African Rift Valley and into the Ngorongoro Highlands, there will be multiple viewpoints where you can see Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater.

While crossing Ngorongoro, you may encounter various wild animals as well as the Maasai people, who coexist with wildlife in the area. You'll notice them in their colorful attire, walking along the roadside, riding bicycles, herding cattle, and driving donkey carts. This journey allows you to pass through their homesteads and learn about their traditions and customs.

You will stop for a picnic lunch at Ngorongoro, providing you with a chance to enjoy a tasty meal while surrounded by nature. Continue with a game drive en route to Serengeti, arriving in the evening.

Once you arrive at the Serengeti, check in at your lodge for a hearty dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Full-day Guided Game Drive of Serengeti National Park

Embark on an exhilarating full-day guided game drive through the breathtaking landscapes of Serengeti National Park, the largest and one of the most iconic parks in Tanzania. Experience the park’s incredible diversity of habitats, from vast short grass plains and expansive savannahs to dense bush, tranquil swamps, majestic hills, and shimmering lakes and swamps.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

In the stunning Central Serengeti region (Seronera), we have the opportunity to see wildebeests and zebras grazing together, often accompanied by powerful predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs. After a lovely picnic lunch, we will continue our adventure toward the amazing Ngorongoro Crater. When we arrive at the edge of this incredible geological treasure, we will be amazed by the spectacular views of its 600-meter-deep caldera, reminding us of the magnificent wonders of nature.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

After enjoying a hearty breakfast, you'll drive down a steep and narrow road into the crater. The lush forests will give way to wide-open savannahs. Here, the wildlife is truly amazing! It is almost certain that you might spot the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard- in just a few hours. You’re also likely to see warthogs, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, and many of the over 500 bird species that call this area home.

After a thrilling morning of exhilarating game viewing in the heart of the wildlife-rich landscape, you’ll pause to enjoy a delightful picnic lunch by the serene shores of the lake. Surrounded by the sounds of nature and the gentle lapping of water, this is the perfect moment to savor delicious local cuisine.

As the afternoon unfolds, you'll embark on a captivating game drive, winding your way back from the majestic crater. The golden sunlight casts a warm glow over the picturesque scenery, offering one last chance to witness the remarkable wildlife before your journey concludes.

In the late afternoon, you’ll begin your scenic road transfer to Arusha, where you will arrive in the evening, bringing to a close your unforgettable four-day adventure in the breathtaking landscapes of Tanzania. Each moment has been filled with excitement, beauty, and cherished memories.

Best Parks for Your 4-Day Tanzania Safaris

Our 4-day Tanzania Safaris focus on 2–3 iconic parks to maximize your wildlife experience while minimizing travel time. Nihapa Tours recommends:

  • Tarangire National Park: Perfect for elephant sightings and budget-friendly safaris.
  • Serengeti National Park: A must-visit for the Great Migration and diverse wildlife.
  • Ngorongoro Crater: Ideal for spotting the Big Five in a compact, scenic setting.

We advise focusing on fewer parks to ensure a richer, more relaxed 4-day Tanzania safari experience.

Best Time to Visit Tanzania for Safari

The best time to embark on your 4-Day Tanzania Safari is during the dry seasons, which offer optimal wildlife viewing and comfortable travel conditions.

  • June to October: This long dry season provides excellent visibility on game drives, easier access to parks, and the opportunity to witness dramatic wildlife gatherings. This period is ideal for seeing predators, elephants, and the Great Migration in the northern Serengeti.
  • December to February: The short dry season follows the rains, leaving lush landscapes and thriving wildlife. This is a perfect time for birdwatching and enjoying vibrant scenery, with fewer crowds than the peak months.

During the rainy seasons (March–May and November), the parks are greener, and wildlife is abundant, though some trails may be slippery. With Nihapa Tours, your safari is carefully planned to coincide with seasonal wildlife activity, ensuring a luxurious and seamless experience throughout your journey.

Day 2 Full day Guided Game Drive of Serengeti National Park

Embark on an exhilarating full-day guided game drive through the breathtaking landscapes of Serengeti National Park, the largest and one of the most iconic parks in Tanzania. Experience the park’s incredible diversity of habitats—from vast short grass plains and expansive savannahs to dense bush, tranquil swamps, majestic hills, and shimmering lakes and swamps.

Marvel at the striking Kopjes that punctuate the grassy savannah, providing prime vantage points to spot the park’s exciting wildlife, including formidable predators. Depending on the season of your visit, you may witness the awe-inspiring migration of thousands of animals, a testament to the Serengeti's rich ecological tapestry.

During the short rainy season from November to December, herds migrate from the northern hills to the expansive plains in the south, while the longer rainy season from April to June sees them return to the north. This dynamic ebb and flow of life is intricately tied to the annual rainfall, and our expert guides are adept at navigating to where the animals are most plentiful.

Pause for a delightful picnic lunch beneath the shade of an acacia tree, soaking in panoramic views that stretch endlessly to the horizon. After lunch, gear up for an enchanting evening game drive. As the sun begins to set, the warm light casts a magical glow over the landscape, and cooler temperatures invite a fresh burst of activity among both predators and prey. This magical hour is often when the most thrilling encounters occur, making it an unforgettable part of your safari experience.

Are safaris suitable for children?

We often get asked about family safaris and most children absolutely love their safari experience. If they are old enough to fully benefit from what is a holiday of a lifetime. There is nothing better for children than to be so close to our amazing wildlife, so much better than watching it on TV or merely reading a book about it. We advise on child-friendly accommodations and ensure that you get a family-friendly room. It is essential to be realistic, however. A safari involves a lot of driving over rough terrain, and we would not recommend a safari trip for children under 3 years old.

Will I see the famous ‘Big 5’?

There are never any guarantees with wildlife, but our driver-guides work hard to find you the ‘Big 5’ and so much more. But you will certainly have a good chance of seeing the Big 5, depending on which parks you choose to visit as part of your itinerary. If your goal is to see a black rhino, you should include Ngorongoro on your schedule.

Will the safari be dusty?

Definitely! What’s the point of a safari if you don’t kick up the dust. And there will be plenty to kick in the dry months. Some of the trails on the safari route are bumpy and dusty, especially between Ngorongoro and Serengeti. So roll up the window and turn the AC on. Use sunglasses and a hat, and protect your electronic equipment from the dust storms

Of course, you should only give a tip if you are satisfied with the quality of the service.

What about bathrooms in the bush?

The safari trips have public bathroom facilities. In case you have to go and there isn’t one in sight. Relieving behind the vehicle is a good option. of course with the concurrence of your guide. They are sympathetic to nature calls

How much does a safari cost?

Safaris are costly. Tanzania Wildlife Safaris prices depend on the number of people on the trip, how many days of safari, and the level of comfort or luxury.

How far in advance do I need to book a Safari?

Book your trip early. Ideally, 6 months in advance and 10-12 months in advance if you want to witness the Wildebeest migration in Serengeti.

Do you arrange Airport pick-up and Drop off?

All our tours to mount Kilimanjaro climbs include airport transfers. We pick you up at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or any other airport near Arusha and Kilimanjaro as per your itinerary plan and take you to your pre-climb hotel in Moshi or Arusha, then back again at the end of your itinerary. In short, we take care of your air transfers and accommodation, before and after your Mount Kilimanjaro climb.

Am I allowed to walk around the national parks?

Stay in the vehicle unless you have clearance from the guide to walk or stretch your legs. If you are keen on hiking, there are guided walks that are available in Tarangire, Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro.
