Day 1 Arrival and overnight in Arusha

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your friendly Nihapa Tours driver-guide will greet you with a warm smile.

Sit back and enjoy the comfort of your private vehicle as you journey to your hotel in Arusha, often referred to as Tanzania’s 'safari capital.

During the one-hour drive, you'll get a glimpse of this vibrant and bustling commercial city. Depending on your arrival time, you may receive your pre-safari briefing today, or it will be provided the following morning to kick off your adventure.

Day 2 Arusha to Central Serengeti

After a hearty breakfast and your safari briefing, it’s time to begin your journey to the heart of the Serengeti.

The drive to Central Serengeti is approximately 5 hours, but the stunning views and the anticipation of what lies ahead will make the journey feel short. Upon arrival, you’ll have lunch before setting off on your first game drive in the Serengeti.

This afternoon, take in the vast plains and the abundant wildlife, including the Big Cats and grazers that call this area home. After the game drive, enjoy a delicious dinner at your accommodation.

Day 3 Full Day Game Drive in Central Serengeti

Start your day early with a game drive in Central Serengeti, where wildlife is abundant. The plains come alive with the movement of wildebeests, zebras, and predators.

Watch as the circle of life unfolds before your eyes. The Serengeti’s iconic kopjes (rocky outcrops) are prime spots for big cats like lions and leopards to sunbathe and hunt.

This full day of game viewing will give you ample time to explore the area and experience the beauty of the Serengeti.

After a satisfying lunch in the bush, continue your game drive, enjoying the ever-changing scenery. Return to your accommodation in the evening for dinner and rest.

Day 4 Central Serengeti to Ndutu

After breakfast, embark on your journey to Ndutu, a 2-hour drive south of the Serengeti. Known for its role in the Great Migration, Ndutu becomes a hotspot for wildlife during the calving season.

The region's rich, nutrient-packed grasses attract thousands of wildebeests and zebras. This afternoon, enjoy your first game drive in Ndutu, where you may witness newborn calves and predators lurking nearby.

Return to your accommodation for an evening meal and a peaceful night in this unique area.

Day 5 Full Day Game Drive in Ndutu

Today is all about exploring Ndutu. This area is perfect for off-road safaris (conditions permitting), allowing you to get up close to the wildlife. Ndutu’s small lakes and abundant water sources support a large population of wildlife throughout the year.

During the calving season, you’ll see newborn wildebeests and zebras, while predators like lions, cheetahs, and hyenas stalk the herds.

A full day in this area will provide plenty of opportunities to capture stunning photos and witness some of nature’s most dramatic moments.

Day 6 Ngorongoro Crater Tour

After a morning game drive in Ndutu, head toward Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its breathtaking landscapes and abundant wildlife.

The drive will take around 3.5 hours, giving you a chance to enjoy the vastness of the Serengeti plains as you make your way towards the crater. After lunch, prepare for an afternoon game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the world’s most unique ecosystems.

You’ll have the chance to spot the Big Five and see incredible wildlife up close. As the day winds down, head back to your accommodation for a relaxing dinner.

Day 7 Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

Your final day begins with an early morning descent into the Ngorongoro Crater. The crater’s floor is teeming with wildlife, including a resident population of lions, elephants, and the rare black rhino.

After a thrilling morning of wildlife watching, head back to your accommodation for lunch before beginning your journey back to Arusha.

The 5-hour drive will take you through scenic landscapes, offering one last chance to reflect on your incredible safari experience.

Arrive in Arusha and, depending on your flight time, you’ll be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward journey.

What’s the cost of a migration safari?

Costs vary but typically range from $2,000 to $10,000+ per person, depending on the length, luxury level, and inclusions.

Is the migration only about wildebeest?

No, it also involves zebras, gazelles, elands, and numerous predators like lions, cheetahs, and hyenas.

Are river crossings dangerous?

For animals, yes, as they face predators like crocodiles and lions. For humans, safaris are conducted at a safe distance, making it a thrilling but safe experience.

How long does the migration last?

It’s a continuous cycle throughout the year, but specific events like river crossings last a few weeks at a time.

Where does the migration occur?

The migration mainly takes place in Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and Kenya’s Maasai Mara.

When is the best time to see the migration?

The timing depends on what stage of the migration you want to witness:
  • Calving season (January–March): In southern Serengeti, ideal for baby animals and predator action.
  • River crossings (July–October): In northern Serengeti and Maasai Mara, famous for dramatic scenes as wildebeest cross crocodile-filled rivers.
  • Migration on the move (April–June and November–December): Best for quieter safari experiences as herds traverse central and western Serengeti.

What is the Great Wildebeest Migration?

The Great Wildebeest Migration is a year-round movement of over 1.5 million wildebeest, zebras, and other animals across the Serengeti in Tanzania and the Maasai Mara in Kenya in search of fresh grazing and water.

Will I see the famous ‘Big 5’?

There are never any guarantees with wildlife, but our driver-guides work hard to find you the ‘Big 5’ and so much more. But you will certainly have a good chance of seeing the Big 5, depending on which parks you choose to visit as part of your itinerary. If your goal is to see a black rhino, you should include Ngorongoro on your schedule.

What happens if I get sick or injured on safari?

Any health or medical emergency will be attended to. If the condition requires hospitalization, you will be evacuated to the nearest hospital immediately. Make sure you have travel and health insurance coverage. It’s highly recommended

What do you mean by game drives?

The opportunity to explore the thriving wildlife of Tanzania in a safari vehicle by going deep into the secluded zones for an up-close and personal experience of Tanzania’s biggest and meanest

What can I expect on a typical safari day?

Depends on which park you have chosen in your itinerary. Every park has a distinct character, topography, and animals with attitude. If it’s Serengeti then enjoy the endless savannahs and Big 5. Tarangire’s offerings are a semi-arid landscape with majestic baobabs with no shortage of wildlife. Including the Big 5 in a day

I would like to book but I have group is large group, is this a problem?

We aim to keep the size of the public groups to a minimum, as we feel that a group that is much larger than ten trekkers is cumbersome and trekkers lose the sense that they are in a wilderness if there are too many people. That said, if you are a single, private group, then there is no problem accommodating you whatever the size of the group, as, of course, you will be aware before arriving in Tanzania of the number of people you will be trekking with.

Am I allowed to walk around the national parks?

Stay in the vehicle unless you have clearance from the guide to walk or stretch your legs. If you are keen on hiking, there are guided walks that are available in Tarangire, Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro.

Are drinks provided in the safari vehicle?

Big yes! You can also carry your drinking water bottle in your backpack. The safari vehicles are equipped with a small refrigerator to keep the drinks of your choice chilled for you to enjoy during your safari. Beverages, beer, and soft drinks are also available
