Best Time for Your 4-Day Gombe National Park Safari
Choosing the right season will greatly enhance your chimpanzee tracking adventure in Gombe:
- Dry Season (June to October, December to February):
This is the best time for trekking, with dry and firm forest trails making it easier to locate and observe chimpanzees. Wildlife is more active and visible, and boat transfers across Lake Tanganyika are typically smoother. - Wet Season (March to May, November):
The forest is lush and vibrant during the rains, offering beautiful scenery and fewer visitors. However, trails may be muddy and more challenging, and occasional rain can affect boat schedules. - Great Migration (June–July & December–March):
While the Great Migration does not occur in Gombe, these months coincide with ideal safari conditions elsewhere in Tanzania. Many travelers combine a Gombe visit with Serengeti or Ngorongoro tours during these peak wildlife seasons.
