Important booking note: A scheduled departure is guaranteed once four travelers have confirmed. If a departure closes below four travelers and Nihapa Tours operates it, the corresponding 1-, 2- or 3-pax price applies to the travelers proceeding on that safari. Odd-number multi-traveler bookings attract the USD 320 single-room supplement for the unpaired guest occupying the single room, unless an available triple room is selected, in which case the USD 113 triple-room reduction applies. Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)–Arusha transfers are USD 70 per vehicle/per transfer for up to five travelers; a party of six travelers is USD 100 per transfer.

WHY OUR GROUP SAFARIS FEEL DIFFERENT

Small Groups. Better Experiences. Professionally Operated.

Most group safaris in Tanzania are built around filling seats. Ours are built around the experience.

At Nihapa Tours, we believe travellers should not have to choose between an expensive private safari and an overcrowded budget tour. That is why we created a different kind of group safari, one that combines the comfort, organisation, and quality of a private journey with the affordability and shared atmosphere of travelling together.

01

Maximum 6 Guests Per Vehicle

Every guest gets a guaranteed window seat in a proper 4×4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof. Smaller groups create a smoother, more relaxed safari experience.

02

One Group, One Vehicle, One Journey

We keep each group together throughout the safari. The same guide, vehicle, accommodation style, and travel pace from beginning to end.

03

Carefully Selected Lodges & Camps

We choose comfortable lodges and tented camps that balance atmosphere, hospitality, location, and overall safari experience.

04

Operated Exclusively by Nihapa Tours

We do not mix guests from different companies or outsource your safari. One team manages the experience from arrival to departure.

05

Designed for Solo Travellers & Couples

Our safaris are ideal for travellers who want the social atmosphere of shared travel without sacrificing comfort or organisation.

06

Thoughtful Group Matching

We carefully coordinate departures to create balanced groups with compatible travel styles and expectations.

All You need to Know about Group Joining Safari

A Group Joining Safari (also called a shared safari) is a cost-effective way to experience Tanzania’s world-famous national parks. Travelers from around the world come together to share one safari vehicle, a professional guide, and the adventure. This allows you to split the costs of transport and guiding, making it budget-friendly without compromising the quality of the safari experience.

You’ll still enjoy guaranteed window seats, comfortable 4x4 Land Cruisers, and opportunities to spot the Big Five, the Great Migration, and Tanzania’s incredible landscapes, while also meeting new people along the way.

Most group safaris in Tanzania use specially designed 4x4 Toyota Land Cruisers with a maximum of 6–7 travelers per vehicle. This ensures everyone has a window seat and plenty of space for comfort, as well as excellent views for wildlife photography. During low season, groups may be smaller, making the experience even more intimate.

The most popular itineraries range between 3 and 7 days:

  • 3-day safari: Ideal for a quick adventure, often covering Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara.
  • 5-day safari: The perfect balance, usually including Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater.
  • 7-day safari: Allows time for both Serengeti regions and deeper exploration of the northern circuit.

Longer itineraries (10–14 days) can cover remote parks like Lake Natron or extend to cultural tours with the Maasai. If you have limited time, flying directly into Serengeti is also possible.

Group safari prices are designed to be all-inclusive so you can enjoy peace of mind. Typically included are:

  • Transport in a 4x4 safari vehicle with pop-up roof
  • Services of a professional English-speaking driver-guide
  • National park entry fees
  • Accommodation in lodges, tented camps, or budget campsites (depending on package)
  • All meals during the safari (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
  • Drinking water in the vehicle

Excluded items often include international flights, visas, travel insurance, tips, alcoholic beverages, and optional extras such as hot-air balloon safaris.

Prices vary depending on season, group size, and accommodation level. As a guide:

  • 3 days: from $650–$1050 per person
  • 5 days: from $1,200–$1,800 per person
  • 7 days: from $1,700–$2,900 per person

Peak season (June–October, December–February) is more expensive, while green season (March–May, November) offers lower rates and fewer crowds. Group joining safaris remain one of the most affordable ways to explore Tanzania.

Accommodation varies depending on your budget and chosen package:

  • Budget camping: Basic tents in public campsites, shared facilities, close to nature.
  • Mid-range lodges/tented camps: Comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms, and hot showers.
  • Luxury options: Upgrade to boutique lodges or luxury tented camps for extra comfort, fine dining, and exclusive locations.

Most group safaris use mid-range tented camps and lodges for the best balance of comfort and affordability.

Safaris operate year-round, but the experience differs by season:

  • June – October: Dry season, excellent for wildlife viewing and river crossings in the northern Serengeti.
  • January – March: Calving season in southern Serengeti, great predator action.
  • November and April – May: Green season, lush landscapes, fewer crowds, and lower prices.

Each season offers unique highlights—there is truly no bad time for safari.

While group safaris follow fixed itineraries, you can often add optional extras such as:

  • Hot-air balloon safari over the Serengeti
  • Maasai village cultural visit
  • Walking safaris in selected areas
  • Night game drives (in certain private reserves)

These activities are at an additional cost and should be booked in advance to secure availability.

Space in safari vehicles is limited, so soft duffel bags are recommended. Essentials include:

  • Light, neutral-colored clothing (avoid blue/black due to tsetse flies)
  • Warm layers for early mornings and evenings
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses
  • Insect repellent
  • Binoculars and a good camera

Remember to bring personal medication, a reusable water bottle, and copies of important travel documents.

Group Safari: Shared with other travelers, more affordable, follows a set itinerary. Great for solo travelers, couples, and those on a budget who enjoy meeting new people.

Private Safari: Exclusive use of a vehicle and guide, complete flexibility on itinerary and pace, ideal for families, photographers, or anyone wanting a tailor-made experience.
